The Detroit Red Wings have made an offer to bring Darren McCarty back for another season.
The 36-year-old McCarty played 11 seasons in Detroit before leaving for Calgary as a free agent prior to the 2005-06 season. After two seasons with the Flames, the Red Wings gave him a chance to get his career back on track this season. And after playing three regular-season games, the gritty forward played in 17 playoff games.
"We've made an offer to Darren," Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said Wednesday. "We like the (physical) ingredient Darren brings."
McCarty has a combined 919 regular season and playoff games under his belt and Holland admits he'd likely come back on a one-way deal and not a two-way that could put him in the minors.

Besides, McCarty WANTS to play here and is already wotking cheap. The Wings can sign him for a year, see what he can do, and think it over again next summer. It is a no lose for both sides.

and he'll probably sign for league minimum, which is a great deal for his experience and grit. he may even be able to still pull the ol' "hang janne niinimaa's jock from the rafters" move once in awhile. ;)
