Is Tiger Woods too good?

It's always a good bar debate about the funniest line from Fawlty Towers, but the occasion when the major walks past Basil at reception and says: "I see Hampshire won," and John Cleese replies, with utter disinterest: "Did it, major?" sprung to mind after the World Matchplay golf this week.

Doubtless thousands of voices said over breakfast tables: "I see Woods won," to which thousands replied: "Did he?" Like Formula One in the days of Schumacher, Tiger's brilliance is in danger of strangling the game for the casual observer.

What he is achieving is extraordinary, phenomenal, bewildering, stunning, breathtaking. The trouble is it's no longer very interesting.
