Aimed at promoting the use of digital technology in photography, entrants were asked to focus on setting still images in a sequence to music.
A panel of international judges selected winners for the two categories: under-16s and 16-24 year olds.
Camille Simon, 13, from France won the under-16s category with a beautifully photographed sequence about the conflict between her red and blue toys and the unexpected outcome. Camille was awarded £100 plus a year’s student membership to the RPS.
Laura Bateman, 21, of East Hanney, Oxfordshire won the 16–24 category. Waiting for Tomorrow is a sequence about an old man who sits in his study and reflects on the events in his life that drove him to write. As he dwells on the past, his memories are represented by stop-motion animations. Laura was awarded £150 plus a year’s student membership to the RPS.
“We are delighted with the response to this competition,” said Maureen Albright, competition organiser. “IRIS-25 gives young people the freedom to show what they do with PCs and Macs, expressing themselves practically and creatively.”
Entries came in from all over the world, including France, Cyprus, Germany and New Zealand.
