Video: Pac-Man, Space Invaders Laser Body Mods
Tattoos are so last century; nowadays all the cool kids are using high speed laser etching machines to burn gaming icons onto their appendages.
I think it goes without saying, but we do not endorse using any sort of industrial machinery to permanently alter your body, especially industrial machinery built specifically for burning designs in things.
Still, there's something fascinating about this video. It's like a car wreck that you can't take your eyes off of. Plus, lasers make everything better -- even ill advised Namco-themed scarification.

I highly doubt this is permanent. It's probably (looks like anyway) just the top layer of skin being fried, which will probably come off in a few showers. So it's sort of a temporary tattoo for people with far too much time on their hands :-)

Well at least they didn't wimp out half way through the procedure. You gotta give em' credit for that at least.

I love it when someone says something HAS GONE TOO FAR!!!

Yeah, this definitely isn't permanent. Honestly, when teenagers stop doing things like this, something is seriously wrong with the world. Certain kinds of people, especially when they are young, can't resist doing semi-dangerous things. Let me know when they're taking pain meds, drilling holes in each others' heads, and sticking wires in to get high. Then I'll get worried.

Hey! It's Tetranitrate at it again! I have loved his tutorials for several years now!

Wow. This is the coolest thing I've seen all week.
I'm pretty sure this type of branding is permanent. I hope for them they don't get giant Pacman keloids though!

Gom jabbar anyone?

When someone says something's gone too far, THEY'VE GONE TOO FAR!
That said...if these sting a bit and are temporary, my first reaction is: much better than sucky tattoos!

Cool. :)
All of you people complaining about this need to calm down. These are much better than tattoos, and I doubt it's permanent. Even if it is, it's not bad looking. Better than shitty tattoos that fade into an ugly green color in a few years, anyway.

In the next decade or so we will be able to change body shape and characteristics by flipping genetic switches to have similarities to other species or be a unique species. Sharks and humans have 5000 genetic switches in common. There are a lot of changes possible. We have a long ways to go beyond tattoos.

LoL
This is cool, what ev, if it's not for you, don't do it but don't bash others because you don't understand the need or want for body mods. There is far far worse out there in terms of what people could do to spend their money time and effort. Way to think outside of the box on this one though, I'm not sure I'd stick my body under on of those temporary or not, I'll stick to ink and needles ty very much

I wonder if you could use this to *remove* a tattoo?

I am not into Tat's, but, in my opinion, this has to be safer than having a needle poke the shit out of you for 30 minutes or so!!! The Laser is cauterizing the "wound" as it goes. No getting and diseases here. I think there could be a commercial market in it if you could vary the laser intensity on the fly and try to get a 3D effect!!! Go For IT!!!!

Heh... Love it when the laser sparked on the skin when it vaporized a hair...
Seriously, this is cool. I like body mods, though I'm not into 'em for personal decoration. More from "Cyborg" fantasies as a teen myself, I'd love to rig something up like a biofeedback control/input.

Skin cancer anyone?
Posted by: BCosta | Jul 6, 2008 2:04:03 AM
I prefer personality over "body art", but then who am I to judge?
Those are not permanent, they are light scarring. Nothing bad -- like a cat scratch when it kneads on you while being pet (or is pissed for getting a bath).
That's just an invention looking for income, and it found it. It's like the Light Scribe CD/DVD burners you can get for your computer.
It's still sort of neat and all, but it's nothing that anyone that ever wanted permanency in anything would do.

This is nothing like real scarification in terms of body mods. This kid is just an idiot and is just helping making the body mod community look bad. Gee, there's a lot of people that do that.
Don't judge all body modification based on one asshole.

These kids should be taught a lesson!
i.e. don't show your face whilst videoing the mis-use of college property.

The next fad must be skin cancer.
Posted by: Bornslippy | Jul 7, 2008 5:50:25 AM
For the few who have mentioned skin cancer....your idiots, the type of laser used and its wavelength actually promote healthy chemical reactions within the blood stream. If your worried about skin cancer, stop driving your gas guzzling cars and destroying the atmosphere.

web sites:
why not just stick your head in there, and write "idiot" directly onto your forehead? the whole "body modification" thing has clearly gone too far. this is stupid.
