Amsterdam, Netherlands (AHN) - A 59-year-old Dutch motorist miraculously survived a freak accident Tuesday when the car the man was driving was hit successively by two trains in opposite directions.

Police spokeswoman Desiree Brabers said the man was attempting to drive his car across a train track in Dorst, 84 miles south of Amsterdam when his car was hit by an eastbound train and dragged several meters.

The man's car was then hit by a westbound train that brought him back to the crossing.

Surprisingly, the driver survived the accident, but was in critical condition. Physicians attending to the unidentified driver say he is in stable condition.
