I second that. Why are these games "awesome"? Because they're shooters?
So, according to Wired, there's hardcore games (= dumb, stereotypical alien invasion / WW2 / zombie games), and then there's casual kiddie games (= everything that does not feature alien invasions / WW2 / zombies). Great. Now grow up, please.

Gotta love how developers don't even try to make their generic shooters sound original:
"in The Conduit, Washington D.C. is under attack by an alien invasion, well, it doesn't take place until halfway in, first there's the whole conspiracy thing going on..."

The DS is there because the guy that was talking was bored because Kohler was the first person to come up to his demo booth.

And, may I be the first person to NOT crap all over the FPSes coming out for the Wii. Its about damn time. I'll be buying The Conduit and Animal Crossing on release day. Hardcore and casual are character traits, not types of games. I'm gonna keep beating that into the internet until the industry understands it. It may take me a while though.

They aren't saying these games are hardcore. They are saying it may attract those who are hardcore gamers. Even the title, Violent Wii Titles Woo Hard-Core Gamers, directs to the type of character trait the industry calls hardcore. So I think your quest to get that straightened up is about over :-)

I'd love to see a Wii game where you could just go out into virtual public spaces, such as parks and shopping malls, and hack bystanders to death with an assortment of melee weapons using the Wiimote. Good idea?

A couple of questions for you, Senor Kohler: Why did you change the opening text from talking about how Nintendo loves the casual dollar, but this recent event brought love to the hardcore? Was it due to the first number of comments?

seriously the reason that "hardcore gamers" (read gamers with experience and taste) hate the Wii isn't only for the fact that it has given them the cold shoulder in the image department. It is because every last one of those games that could be good are made shit because of controls that, if on any less casual platform, that would have the game made a pariah and destroyed as a warning to other developers.
It isn't a lack of precision, it is the fact that when you move the wiimote down it thinks that you just shoved it up your ass.

I guess I can see why they would want to woo them, it seems these mythical hardcore gamers are willing to pay over and over again for the same cliches.

Or even the same game. I can't at all understand the excitement you have over Punch Out being re-released.

Its really sort of depressing to me to see all the press given Call of Duty [X], Street Fighter [X], Halo [X].

I think what bothers me most is that praising these lineups just encourages more rehash.

I haven't bought a Wii because my only gaming interest lies in destroying things. I can ski in real life. I can play tennis in real life. I can bowl in real life. I CANNOT SLAUGHTER THE UNDEAD IN REAL LIFE.

The next revolution in gaming with not be violence but sex.

Video games need to be created that allow users to make love rather than make war.

It would be interactive porn and could provide alternative and controlled environments for "internet predators" to come get their rocks off in a controlled hospital environment rather than harming actual people.

It would also save marriages since people could "cheat" and have virtual sex without "cheating."

Imagine you create a three-dimensional avatar to have sex with others on the internet the way people do with Warcraft.
